A CONSTRUCTION worker found a blood-stained knife buried on OJ Simpson’s property “years ago” — and gave it to an off-duty cop who kept it in his home before finally turning it over to police.

Law enforcement sources told TMZ that the blade is a folding buck knife, which cops confirmed is now being tested for hair and fingerprints after being handed over to the LAPD’s Robbery Homicide Division.

It will be tested for DNA, body fluid and hair samples, LAPD Capt Andrew Neiman told reporters in a press conference today.

Cops who saw the weapon said it appeared to have blood residue on it, but it’s extremely rusted and stained, so further testing is needed.

The construction worker who found the knife may have stumbled upon it while Simpson’s home was being demolished in 1998.

After finding the blade, he took it to an off-duty or retired LAPD traffic officer who was providing security for a nearby movie shoot.

But instead of turning the knife over to his higher-ups, the cop apparently kept it as a souvenir.

Capt Neiman said: “I was really surprised. I would think that any LAPD officer would know that any time you come into contact with evidence you should and shall submit that to investigators.”

According to TMZ, it wasn’t until he retired in late January that he decided to contact a friend in the homicide division — and tell him how he was getting it framed on his wall. He was forced to eventually hand it over to the LAPD.

Despite all this, OJ probably cannot be prosecuted again because of US double-jeopardy laws, which prohibits someone from being charged with the same crime twice.

OJ was found not guilty of the murder of his ex Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman in 1995.
